Global Organic Soap Brand Sponsors Transitions Film Festival to Support Screenings of Documentaries on Sustainable Agriculture in Melbourne and Sydney

Dr. Bronner’s All-One! Australia Initiative Supports Screenings of Feature Film: Evolution of Organic and Documentary Short: Journey to Serendipol

February 7, 2018

MELBOURNE, AUS – Dr. Bronner’s is more than just your average soap brand. Renowned the world over as natural product pioneers, Dr. Bronner’s is now leaving their ethical footprint across Australia with their colourful range of soaps and personal care products—and through their contributions to Australia’s visionary cinematic event, Transitions Film Festival. Dr. Bronner’s is a Presenting Sponsor of Evolution of Organic, a documentary the company helped produce, and is also a Supporting Sponsor of the festival itself.

“Dr. Bronner’s is a global leader in ethical, cruelty-free, organic and fair trade body care, creating a positive impact through producing socially and environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, and dedicating profits to help make a better world,” says Tammy Aronson Seligmann, General Manager of Lateral Food, Dr. Bronner’s distribution partner in Australia. “It makes perfect sense for us to support the Transitions Film Festival through our All-One! Australia Initiative, which promotes mission-aligned organisations that inspire and create positive impact in our communities.”

Starting off in Melbourne on February 22, the Transitions Film Festival travels to five cities across Australia through May to showcase groundbreaking documentaries about the social and technological innovations, revolutionary ideas and trailblazing change makers that are leading the way to a better world. The Transitions Film Festival has been inspiring audiences and powering social change since 2012, and in 2018 will host festivals in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

Evolution of Organic brings us the epic story of organic agriculture as the most popular and successful outgrowth of the environmental impulse in the last 50 years. The story is told by those who built the movement: a motley crew of back-to-the-landers, spiritual seekers, and farmer’s sons and daughters who rejected chemical farming and set out to invent organic alternatives.

“Dr. Bronner’s is proud to have donated to the making of Evolution of Organic and to be the Presenting Partner of the film,” says David Bronner, CEO of Dr. Bronner’s. “Evolution of Organic is not simply an entertaining history, but looks at visions of regenerative organic agriculture – a chance to reclaim the original intent and foundation that organic agriculture must be not only sustainable but also regenerative, fair and compassionate.”

Screenings of Evolution of Organic in Melbourne will be introduced by All-One! Australia advocate Annie “Uncanny Annie” Nolan; and in Sydney, by Alexx Stuart of LowToxLife. Dr. Bronner’s own short documentary, Journey to Serendipol, will also be screened in advance of the main feature. Journey to Serendipol is an 8 minute video documenting the production of the fair trade and organic, virgin coconut oil used by Dr. Bronner’s in its soaps and culinary oil, as well as the development of Serendipol—Dr. Bronner’s fair trade sister company in Kuliyapitiya, Sri Lanka, which cultivates, harvests and processes the coconuts. “At Dr. Bronner’s, we were one of the first brands to certify our soaps, lotions and balms under the USDA National Organic Program in 2003,” says Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s. “Now we source all of our major raw materials from certified Fair Trade and organic projects around the world. Dr. Bronner’s isn’t just about soap, it’s about creating dialogue around the products we use as consumers and promoting the idea that each individual can make a difference.”

Dr. Bronner’s is a family business committed to honouring the vision of founder Emanuel Bronner by making socially and environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, and by dedicating profits to help make a better world. The company’s commitment to progressive business practices is part of the company’s mission to put into practice the principles that inform the philosophy printed on the company’s iconic soap labels written by founder Emanuel Bronner. Bronner was a third generation soap maker who spent his life renouncing hate and war on a personal mission to unite mankind. His strong views and lectures landed him in a mental asylum in Chicago, but eight months later in 1948, Bronner escaped and continued with his message in California. During this time, he also began making peppermint liquid soap under the Dr. Bronner’s brand. He gave the soap away during his talks but soon realised people were taking it without listening to him speak. As a result, he started writing his philosophy on the bottle in tiny script, which is still used on Dr. Bronner’s packaging today.
