Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap Cleans and Relieves Dehydrated Hands and Calms Dry, Sensitive Skin

MELBOURNE, AUS — The key message from both the World Health Organisation and the Australian Department of Health, is that washing hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds, using soap and warm water, is still the best way to protect yourself from the spread of germs. But with all this constant handwashing – what can we do to protect the skin from dryness and sensitivity?

Frequent washing can compromise the skin’s acid mantle (the skin’s essential barrier against dehydration, infection and environmental stressors). Ensure hands are as comfortable as possible by using a mild soap, that also contains moisturising ingredients, to keep the skin clean and healthy.

Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid and Bar Soap is unlike any other soap on the market, with organic certification and fair trade certification for all major raw ingredients used to make this plant-based soap without any synthetic chemical surfactants or foaming agents. The blend of ethically sourced coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, palm oil, hemp oil (which is rich in omega-3 and -6 fatty acids) and a generous addition of pure, aromatic essential oils for the scented varieties, creates a unique soap that “speaks” the language of the skin.

It does this by incorporating the three essential moisturising components occlusives, humectants, and emollients – skin benefits most when all three of these moisturisers are present together:

Occlusives: These sit on the surface of the skin and act as a substitute acid mantle.  Like the acid mantle, they protect against dehydration, infection, and environmental damage, and give the two other types of moisturisers a chance to do their part.  The organic Jojoba oil in Dr. Bronner’s soaps is an occlusive.

Humectants: Draw moisture back into the skin and work best beneath the protection of an occlusive.  Among the plant-based ingredients that do this are glycerine and various sugars, including honey and sucrose. The glycerine from the in Dr. Bronner’s soaps acts as a humectant.

Emollients: These fill in the cracks between skin flakes, replacing lost lipids. There are two fatty acids that do this particularly well: linoleic and alpha-linoleic fatty acids, neither of which, the body can produce on its own. They are readily found in a wide variety of nuts, seeds, and leafy vegetables including safflower, wheat germ, sunflower, and hemp oils. The organic Hemp oil in Dr. Bronner’s soaps acts as an emollient.

Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap effectively cleans without being aggressive, creating an indulging and pampering velvety lather which moisturises as it enriches the skin with pure essential oils.
