May 6, 2020

VISTA, CA – Dr. Bronner’s has announced the debut of its first Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) product, Whole and White Kernel Virgin Coconut Oils. Sourced from Dr. Bronner’s sister company in Sri Lanka, Serendipol, the world’s foremost supplier of fair trade and regenerative organic coconut oil, Dr. Bronner’s Regenerative Organic Coconut Oil is the first product of its kind to market. Expeller-pressed with a rich flavor and nutty aroma, Dr. Bronner’s Regenerative Organic Certified Coconut Oil is available in White and Whole Kernel varieties in 14 oz jars for $11.99, and the Whole Kernel Virgin Coconut Oil is additionally available in 30 oz jars for $21.99, available online at www.drbronner.com and wherever organic products are sold in retailers nationwide.

“Regenerative Organic Certification brings together the best of the soil health, animal welfare and fair labor movements into a single standard. Adopted at global scale, regenerative organic management of agricultural lands can mitigate climate change and help build resilient rural communities,” said David Bronner, Cosmic Engagement Officer at Dr. Bronner’s. “Regenerative Organic Certified criteria reflect the values that Dr. Bronner’s was already implementing in our supply chain, with our focus on Organic and Fair Trade systems, but now we’re seeking the next level of environmental stewardship, and we’re proud to show that with our new Regenerative Organic Coconut Oil.”

The first Regenerative Organic Certified Coconut Oil in the world, this product goes above and beyond USDA Organic and Fair Trade standards, demonstrating that regenerative organic agriculture can be practiced at the scale needed to meet global market demands. In addition to piloting Regenerative Organic Certified standards in its coconut oil supply chain, Dr. Bronner’s has achieved certification approval for two primary ingredients in its body care products and bar soaps: Mint Oil from Pavitramenthe in India, and Palm Oil from sister company Serendipalm, in Ghana. To make the best products for both people and planet, Dr. Bronner’s is committed to certifying all products to be Regenerative Organic Certified.

“When we built and started up Serendipol in 2007, our local partners and us quickly realized that ‘organic and fair’ is more than not using chemicals. It’s about rebuilding soil fertility and productivity to allow farmers improve yields and income. We then took the first steps towards a regenerative supply chain years before the connection with global climate change went public,” said Gero Leson, Vice President of Special Operations at Dr. Bronner’s. “With additional Regenerative Organic Certified pilot programs underway, in other areas of our supply chain, we’re eager to prove the feasibility of this high-bar criteria, to the betterment of farmer and farmworker livelihoods, and consumers around the world.”

Launched in the Spring of 2018, Regenerative Organic Certification is a holistic agriculture certification encompassing animal welfare, fairness for farmers and farmworkers, and robust requirements for soil health and land management. Regenerative Organic Certification was created by a group of companies and organizations now working together under the name, the Regenerative Organic Alliance. Led by Rodale Institute, and spearheaded by Dr. Bronner’s and Patagonia, other founding members of the certification include: Compassion in World Farming, Fair World Project, Grain Place Foods, and White Oak Pastures. This non-profit has been established to continuously review and update the certification guidelines. The Regenerative Organic Alliance is made up of experts in farming, ranching, soil health, animal welfare, and farmer and worker fairness.

Regenerative organic agriculture is a proven method for mitigating the effects of climate change, as practices such as minimal tillage, composting and intercropping, sequester atmospheric carbon in the soil. Along with their families and communities, farmers and workers benefit from fair prices, living wages and funding for local development projects.
