6 First Steps to Organic Beauty

June 9, 2016

What does ‘organic’ really mean when it comes to our skincare? With countless beauty companies now developing their very own eco-friendly beauty products, it’s hard to be sure that what you’re buying really is as ‘natural’ as it claims to be on the label.

Proving that when it comes to eco-beauty, there’s only one real shade of green; 3rd generation ethical cleansing brand Dr. Bronner’s knows a thing or two when it comes to creating an eco-loving lifestyle. With 6 easy and effective beauty solutions to make your regime as natural, organic and sustainable as possible, this summer it’s true that green really is the new black!

Step 1. Waste not Want Not

We are all guilty of over cluttering our bathrooms with products we hardly use, which is not only bad for the planet, but bad for our bank balance too! Detox your cabinet and swap to a simple, multi-tasking formula that gets the job done in one.

With 18-in-1 uses, Dr.Bronner’s soap can be used for almost anything, from washing your body to cleaning your vegetables, so you’ll find it far easier to adopt a zero waste beauty routine, also helping out with those daily chores!

Step 2. Check the Ingredients

When it comes to the scientific ingredients behind your favourite beauty products, reading the label can often feel a little complex, making it hard to understand what really goes into your product. The best way to check for truly authentic ingredients is by looking for an independent certification. Dr.Bronner’s is certified by the same National Organic program that certifies food, making it easy for you to stay clear of pesticides and fertilisers that you’d find with standard produce.

Step 3. A cleanser conscience doesn’t mean costly price tag!

2016 is certainly no stranger to the ‘greener living’ craze, as the number of people switching to eco-friendly cosmetics is soaring. Unfortunately however, so is the price! With even the most luxury brands on the market jumping on the beauty buzzword, you’d be forgiven for thinking a cleaner conscience came with a costly price tag. Believe it or not you needn’t spend a small fortune to make the change as the most eco-friendly products are actually some of the most cost effective too. Dr. Bronner’s fair trade and planet-friendly beliefs ensure not only fair prices, with travel soaps starting at just £1.99 for 59ml, but living wages and community benefits for farmers, workers and their families.

Step 4. Get your Vitamins

We know how important it is to eat good quality food with fantastic ingredients, and it’s the same for skin; the better the ingredients, the healthier our skin. Using only essential oils and ingredients derived from plants, packed full of natural antioxidants and the vitamin C that makes our skin glow, Dr. Bronner’s ensures that, with 8 deliciously organic fragrances to choose from (including Peppermint, Lavender, Green Tea, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Almond, Rose, and Tea Tree) your skin is more than getting it’s five a day.

Step 5. Stick with It

While it’s true that the ingredients used in many mainstream beauty products won’t affect us in the short term; prolonged daily use can have adverse effects on our skin, especially in more sensitive areas. For example, many facial cleansers contain alcohol-based ingredients that end up drying up your skin, so knowing your products are chemical free can ease worries of long term allergic and chemical reactions. Instead of preservatives like parabens that can disrupt the hormone system, Dr. Bronner’s only use natural preservatives that are gentle but effective, so you can use your favourite products confidently, time after and time again!

Step 6. Recycle!

Each year, nearly 29 million tons of plastic ends up in landfill sites across the country, with empty bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion amongst the highest contributors. Not only are Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castille soaps completely bio-degradable, but every plastic bottle, packaging or paper label you’ll see bearing the brands iconic logo, uses only 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials, so you won’t leave a lasting footprint on our planet.

Note to Editors
Emanuel Bronner was a third generational soap maker who spent his life renouncing hate and war on a personal mission to unite mankind. His strong views and lectures landed him in a mental asylum in Chicago, but eight months later in 1948, Bronner escaped and continued with his message in California. During this time, he also began making peppermint liquid soap under the ‘Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps’ brand. He gave away soap during his talks but soon realized people were taking it without listening to him speak. As a result, he started writing his philosophy on the bottle in tiny script, which is still used on Dr. Bronner’s packaging today.
