Alliance San Diego

Founded in 2007, Alliance San Diego is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower diverse communities to engage more effectively in the civic process. Our vision is of a future where all people can achieve their full potential in an environment of harmony, safety, equality, and justice. Our daily work is to provide underrepresented communities with the information, resources, and tools to become agents of change—in the halls of power, in the courts of justice, and in the streets of our democracy. Your support helps us assist immigrants to become citizens, citizens to become voters, voters to become leaders, and all of us to become active participants in our democracy. That is how we build a more inclusive, humane, and just democracy. Together.

Boys & Girls Club of Greater San Diego

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD) has been changing the lives of young people from diverse, at-risk backgrounds for the past 78 years. Our enriching after school programs focus on academic success, good character and healthy lifestyles—transforming young people’s lives and helping them grow up to be caring, productive, civic-minded and successful citizens of their communities. Many of the young people who attend our various Clubhouses face tremendous challenges in their day-to-day lives. More than 64% organization-wide come from significantly low-income families. Many of the communities are replete with crime, drugs and gang violence. For many working families, the Boys & Girls Clubs offer the only safe after-school option for their children, providing a nurturing and supportive environment where young people can flourish. Professional, well-trained staff supervise children and offer quality programs during the critical after-school hours. For the children, this becomes a home away from home, and an essential stepping stone to a brighter and more promising future. These youth represent all social, economic and ethnic backgrounds who seek the same thing we all do—a chance to belong, to grow and thrive, become successful, and develop their skills.

Boys to Men Mentoring

Boys to Men Mentoring  incorporates holistic, intergenerational, and asset-based mentoring practices to encourage community involvement, intensive self-reflection, positive critical thinking habits, and self- accountability amongst the young men it serves. Boys to Men’s mission is to build communities of male role models, who, through consistent group mentoring, encourage and empower fatherless, at-risk, and disconnected teenage boys to follow their dreams. Our mentoring programs positively impact boys’ lives by fulfilling their need to engage with others and communicate their feelings while being amongst their peers and mentors without fear of judgement. One of the most important tenets of BTM is that mentors do not teach, lecture or tell boys what to do. Instead, each mentor is encouraged to share his story, the feelings he had when he was a teenager, the mistakes he made, the lessons he learned and the long-term consequences of his actions. This approach gives the boys permission to tell the truth about the challenges all teenage boys face, make their own decisions on how to deal with those challenges, and begin to take responsibility for their choices and the consequences of their actions while receiving the support of male role models who support them no matter what.
