The Unknown Benefits of Tea Tree… It’s not Just Good for Spots!
February 1, 2014
Tea tree; we all know that this hero oil works wonders on blemishes and spots but did you know that tea tree has a whole host of other uses? Dr. Bronner’s has picked out a few favourites that are just PERFECT for the summer months, so this year you only need that one hero product in your handbag; the Dr. Bronner’s magic 18-in-1 liquid soap that can be used for an array of skin and body concerns including….
Ingrown Hairs: Summer outfits mean more waxing/shaving which can cause dreaded and sometimes very painful ingrown hairs! Treat this by adding 1– 2 drops of Dr. Bronner’s tea tree liquid soap mixed with ½ a cup of water directly to area. Repeat every 2 hours or until signs of infection disappear.
Sunburn: Has too much sun left you looking red and feeling sore? Fear not, just mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with 1 drop of tea tree liquid soap and 1 drop of lavender soap and gently apply to sunburned areas. This should help mend the skin and ease of any pain.
Chapped Lips: Exposure to the sun and excessive air conditioning can cause lips to become dry, dehydrated and chapped. Adding 1 or 2 drops of tea tree liquid soap to your lip balm can help the skin heal and leave your lips soft and plump.
Minor Cuts and grazes: Too many sangrias in the sun can sometimes leave you wobbly on your feet and more prone to minor cuts and grazes. After cleaning the grazed area well, apply a few drops of the tea tree liquid soap mixed with ½ cup of water directly onto the skin. If a bandage is needed, allow a few drops of the oil to penetrate a cotton ball, then lay it face down on the wound with a bandage on top.
Bruises: Bruises are not the ideal look when sporting the latest micro mini dress this summer. After icing, soak a cotton ball in half a cup of water mixed with 1 or 2 drops of liquid soap and apply to the affected area.
Bunions: We love our summer sandals and stilettos but sometimes wrongly fitted or tight shoes can cause many problems to the feet and toes such as bunions! To avoid these little mites, massage the area with 5 drops of tea tree liquid soap with two cups of water and soak feet to leave them fresh, tingly and bunion free.
Mosquito Bites: We’ve all had them; mosquito bites can be painful, irritating, painful and not very attractive to look at! If you get bitten this summer, fear not… Just apply a drop of tea tree liquid soap directly to bites to ease itching and bring the redness down.

Notes to editors:
Dr. Emanuel Bronner was a third generational soap maker who spent his life renouncing hate and war on a personal mission to unite mankind. His strong views and lectures landed him in a mental asylum in Chicago. But, eight months later, in 1948, Bronner escaped and continued with spreading his message around California. During this time, he also began making peppermint liquid soap under the ‘Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps’ brand. He gave away soap during his talks but soon realized people were taking it without listening. As a result, he started writing his philosophy on the bottle in a tiny script, which is still used on Dr Bronner’s packaging today.
