Dr. Bronner’s makes a stand for ‘true’ natural and organic products

Passion for what you do normally stops for most at talk rather than action, but the team at Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in the U.S. have recognised that taking bold and direct action, occasionally even taking HUGE risks, is sometimes needed to make a difference for the benefit of the ‘greater good’.
1. Making a stand (in a cage!)
In 2011, David Bronner The president of Dr. Bronner’s magic soaps locked himself up in a 64-square-foot steel cage and pitched up outside The White House in an act of civil disobedience to support the use of locally sourced hemp in beauty products and to make the statement that U.S. farmers should be allowed to grow industiral hemp. David was then arrested by the Washington police and released on traffic violation.

2. Harvest a better future
In an attempt to show the world, and President Obama, that hemp was not actually a drug, David Bronner and a group of farmers dug up the lawn in front of the Drug Enforcement Administration to plant hemp seeds. The group were caught in action and arrested, but their message was clear.

3. Challenge brands and industries making misleading labeling claims
In the US for the past 6 years, Dr. Bronner’s has been taking legal action against 13 personal care companies for falsely using the label ‘organic’ on their products. Moreover, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps has donated millions into campaigns in the U.S. to label GMO foods. The company is campaigning to require companies to label genetically modified foods, in order to make consumers aware of the quality of the products they buy.

4. Break the Royal Protocol
Ariel Vegosen, a representative of Dr. Bronner’s US team, was brave enough to break into what generally is a really tight schedule in order to reach the Prince of Wales, Charles, when he was visiting India. Ariel managed to meet Prince Charles and tell him about the Dr. Bronner’s and what they stand for, this helps to raise awareness of new sustainability plans and fair trade in order to create a better future for the world.
The Background of Dr. Bronners:
Dr. Emanuel Bronner was a third generational soap maker who spent his life renouncing hate and war on a personal mission to unite mankind. His strong views and lectures landed him in a mental asylum in Chicago, but eight months later in 1948, Bronner escaped and continued with his message in California. During this time, he also began making peppermint liquid soap under the ‘Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps’ brand. He gave away soap during his talks but soon realized people were taking it without listening to him speak. As a result, he started writing his philosophy on the bottle in tiny script, which is still used on Bronner’s packaging today.

Dr. Bronner’s takes its organic credentials very seriously unlike many “natural” body care companies who masquerade their synthetically derived ingredients by using floral water as the main natural ingredient, while the functional ingredients are petrochemical derived and thus non-sustainable.
